Jeli is a learning and careers platform made by AfroGrad. This page explains, in plain words, what information we collect when you use Jeli, why, who can see it, and what you can do about it.
What we collect
We only collect what Jeli needs to work. That is:
- Your account. Your email address and password (handled by our sign-in provider; we never see your password in plain text), your name, and whether you joined as a member or a mentor.
- Your profile. Anything you add: role or title, company, location, photo, bio, skills and LinkedIn link.
- Your education details. If you add them: your education, level of study, field of study and graduation year. We use these to suggest courses and opportunities that fit you.
- Your learning. Courses you enrol in, lessons you complete, quiz and lab answers, and the progress and completion records built from them.
- Your applications. When you apply for a role: the details, CV and links you choose to send.
- Your AI chats. Messages you send to Jeli's AI coaches and tutor, any files you upload to them, and their replies.
- Payments. Paid plans are not open yet. When they open, payments will be taken by Paystack on its own page. We will receive a record that you paid and for which plan; we will never see or store your card or mobile money details.
- Settings on your device. The app keeps small things such as your theme and open tab in your browser's storage so it remembers them next time.
- Design tests. We sometimes show visitors one of two versions of a page to learn which works better. Your browser keeps a random id so you keep seeing the same version, and we record which version you saw and whether you used its main buttons (for example "Start learning"). If you are signed in, that record is linked to your account. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we record nothing.
How AI chats are handled
To answer you, the text of your message (and any file you attach) is sent to an AI model provider. Today these are Google (Gemini), OpenRouter and Groq. They process it to produce a reply.
If chat memory is switched on, your conversations are saved to your account so coaches can pick up where you left off. You can delete saved conversations, and saved memory is removed after the retention period set on your account (365 days by default).
Please don't paste passwords, ID numbers or other sensitive personal information into a chat.
Who can see your information
- You can see and edit your full profile.
- Everyone can see a mentor's public card: name, title, company, location, photo, bio, skills and LinkedIn link. Members' profiles are not public. Education details are never public.
- Employers or project owners see the application you send them.
- AfroGrad admins can see accounts to run the service, fix problems and keep it safe.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Services we rely on
- Supabase: our database, sign-in and file storage.
- Cloudflare: hosting for the website.
- Google, OpenRouter and Groq: AI replies, as described above.
- Paystack: payments, once paid plans open.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as your account is open. Saved AI memory follows the retention period described above. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your profile and the records linked to it, except anything we must keep by law (for example payment records).
Your choices and rights
You can:
- see and correct your profile at any time from your dashboard;
- turn chat memory off and delete saved conversations;
- ask for a copy of your information;
- ask us to delete your account and information.
To make a request, email [email protected]. We aim to reply within 30 days.
Young learners
If you are under 18, please use Jeli with a parent's or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has given us information without that permission, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change how we use your information, we will update this page and the date at the top. For significant changes, we will tell you in the app or by email.
